Not only did the Michigan Wolverines blow out the Maryland Terrapins on Saturday, they also extended a scholarship to one of the West Coast’s top recruits in the 2021 class — four-star linebacker Keith Brown.
Michigan defensive line coach Shaun Nua, whose recruiting focus is the West Coast, was the one who delivered the offer to Brown.
“Blown away,” Brown told Maize n Brew about how he felt when he received the offer. “This is my first time talking to (Nua), but he seems like a great guy with good energy.”
The 6-foot-1, 220-pounder from Lebanon, Oregon admits he doesn’t know a lot about U-M, but he is “looking forward to finding out more.”
“My interest level is high,” he said.
The interest level is so high, in fact, he is looking to visit Ann Arbor at some point in the future. When that exactly will be, however, is to be determined.
Besides Michigan, Brown admits he is interested in every school that has offered him a scholarship. Those schools include USC, Washington, Oregon, Washington State, Tennessee, UCLA, Arizona, Cal and more.
With him being a West Coast kid, Brown has been able to visit “almost every West Coast school,” at some point in his recruitment. But as of right now, he has no upcoming visits planned the rest of the year.
As of right now, Michigan is definitely playing catch up in this recruitment. Nua is a good recruiter, so there are no doubts Michigan can sneak into the race and land a visit. This recruitment likely has a long ways to go, so stay tuned for updates.
Brown is the No. 1 player in the state of Oregon, No. 3 inside linebacker and No. 129 overall player in the 2021 class, per 247Sports’ composite. All three crystal ball picks right now are in favor of Oregon.
