One of the most sought-after players in the state of Michigan in the 2020 class is 4-star Port Huron defensive end Braiden McGregor.
The 6-foot-5.5, 248-pounder has offers from all over the country — including Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame, Ohio State and more. He was also offered by LSU Monday afternoon.
The Wolverines offered him in April of last year, and the coaching staff has been in hot pursuit of his services ever since.
He visited U-M this past weekend, along with 4-star linebacker commit Osman Savage and others, and was able to pack in quite a few things all in one day.
“It went really good. I started out by playing coach Nua in a free throw competition because he said we were going to after he came to one of my basketball games,” McGregor told Maize n Brew. “Then met with coach Brown for about 30 minutes and then went to the (basketball) game.”
McGregor hasn’t had a ton of communication with Nua up to this point, but the communication they have had seems to have left a good impression.
“(Nua is) a really good guy. He was texting me every day saying he got his free throws in and I thought he was kidding until yesterday. *laughs* He is very genuine,” McGregor said.
For now, McGregor is taking some time off recruiting until his high school’s spring break. He will be visiting Clemson, Alabama, Florida, Florida State and Miami (FL) from March 14-22.
A couple crystal ball predictions have come through for Michigan since McGregor’s visit to campus, but I personally would not be ready for that, if I had a crystal ball pick. I do think Michigan leads, but he still has five visits to big time programs coming up. Anything can happen and his recruitment could change drastically during one or more of those visits.
McGregor is currently ranked the No. 6 player in Michigan, No. 20 strong-side defensive end and No. 329 overall player in the 247Sports composite. That, however, could drastically change, as 247Sports is set to update its rankings next week. McGregor is expected to receive a huge bump up, especially since he received an invitation to play in the All-American Bowl.
