On Tuesday night, one of the most interesting prospects in the state of Michigan in the 2020 cycle — 3-star wide receiver/tight end Maliq Carr — named the Wolverines to his top five list.

Joining Michigan on the shortlist is LSU, Texas A&M, Notre Dame and Purdue.

Maize n Brew caught up with Carr shortly after he released his top five, and the reason for Michigan being so high on his list is because of a new face to the coaching staff.

“Coach (Josh) Gattis,” Carr said. “(And) the offensive changes.”

Carr is visiting Michigan today (Wednesday) to watch a spring practice. He also told Maize n Brew he is hoping to make his commitment on his birthday — Oct. 11.

If he ends up waiting until his birthday, we obviously will not see where he will go for quite some time, but Michigan appears to have a leg up on every other school at this moment. Carr has visited Ann Arbor multiple times and has expressed his excitement about Gattis and Michigan’s offense on more than one occasion.

All is good on the Michigan front in this recruitment as of now.
