Happy Friday, and welcome in to another Michigan Recruiting Roundup!
We have updates on a couple prospects from the 2020 and 2021 classes today, so buckle up and let’s get right into it.
2 elite in-state linemen visiting U-M Sunday
The 2021 recruiting cycle is going to be one of the best in the state of Michigan in recent memory, and two-way linemen Rocco Spindler and Garrett Dellinger are big reasons why.
Both guys dropped in 247Sports’ new 2021 rankings, but are still both in the top 50 nationally. That said, the Clarkston duo already have offers from elite schools all around the country, and are planning to visit Michigan this Sunday, according to The Michigan Insider’s Brice Marich ($).
Also reported by Marich, the Clarkston boys are “very excited” about the upcoming visit and “getting closer” with the coaching staff.
Spindler and Dellinger have both been on campus previously, but this will be the first time (at least reportedly) they have been in Ann Arbor this year. Continuing to forge bonds with them will go a long way, as they won’t be signed to their future college for, at the very least, more than a year and a half. This is the infant stage of these recruitments, and Michigan has to leave a big impression if it wants any chance of landing either player.
2020 3-star LB planning to visit U-M ‘soon’
The Wolverines already have commitments from two linebackers in the 2020 class, but seem set on taking at least one more, as linebacker is a big need in this class.
One player who may be that third guy is 3-star Nikhai Hill-Green. The Baltimore, Maryland native is teammates with two 2020 Michigan commits — offensive lineman Miccah Mazzccua and linebacker Osman Savage — which could go a long way in landing a commitment from Hill-Green.
In a recent interview with 247Sports’ Brian Dohn ($), Hill-Green said he plans on visiting Michigan “soon,” along with Wisconsin and Nebraska.
“Michigan is just a historic program,” Hill-Green said. “I love everything about Michigan. The people here committed to Michigan are recruiting me to go to Michigan. I can’t wait to go see Michigan.”
Hill-Green is rated a 4-star by 247Sports, but is a 3-star on the composite. If he has a good senior season, he very well could be promoted to a composite 4-star.
2021 Louisiana ATH ‘shocked’ to receive offer from U-M
Very seldom do you hear a player from Louisiana be interested in the Wolverines, but that is exactly what we are talking about today.
Sage Ryan, a 5-foot-11, 193-pound athlete from Lafayette, Louisiana received an offer from Michigan earlier this month, and told TMI’s Marich ($) all about it.
“One of their coaches called my head coach and they said I had an offer,” Ryan said. “I was shocked. I couldn’t imagine getting an offer from Michigan. It’s an honor. I was thinking when I found out about the Michigan offer, ‘Come again?’”
Ryan was quick to say Michigan is one of his five favorite schools at this juncture of his recruitment, but considering he has scholarship offers from just four other schools — LSU, Colorado, Tennessee and Virginia — that shouldn’t come as a surprise. However, the excitement was not a facade, as he plans on visiting as soon as next month.
“I’m planning on visiting there real soon,” he said. “Maybe like sometime in May. When I visit Michigan, I want to know their rules and how they run things and their culture.”
247Sports has Ryan ranked as the No. 5 athlete and No. 48 overall player in the 2021 class, so he is well on his way to being an elite prospect.
That’s all we got for this week! Be sure to check back on Monday for more recruiting news.
