Michigan is still in with plenty of top safeties.

Michigan is doing very well with some top safeties in the 2020 class, and there’s one right in their backyard they could pull in after West Bloomfield 4-star Makari Paige put the Wolverines in his top seven Monday night.

There’s a heavy Big Ten flavor to Paige’s list, with Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan State and Purdue representing the conference. Notre Dame and Kentucky (who seems to be in on every Michigan kid lately) round out the group.

Paige is the No. 5 player in the state and the 239th player overall, per the 247Sports composite. He stands at a lanky 6-foot-3 and 182 pounds. As a junior, he lists making 105 tackles while playing all over the secondary.

While Michigan holds 80 percent of the crystal ball picks, this isn’t a slam dunk recruitment. Like his former teammate Lance Dixon last cycle, Paige is giving a hard look to Penn State and Ohio State. He recently visited Happy Valley in May and has an official visit scheduled to Columbus June 21.

Having his current teammate, linebacker Cornell Wheeler, already committed to Michigan provides a solid voice in the Maize and Blue corner, and you know Andre Seldon has been in his ear as well. I haven’t seen a decision timeline for Paige, so this race could go on for a bit.
