Michigan recruiting has finally slowed down during the dead period, as focus turns toward the BBQ at the Big House in late July. The visitor’s list for that event keeps growing, as you’ll see below, and some other notable updates have occurred.
4-star safety plans BBQ trip
One of Michigan’s several remaining targets at safety is New Jersey 4-star RJ Moten. The Wolverines have been in great position with Moten for a long time, and a recent update from The Michigan Insider’s Brice Marich further affirms this sentiment ($).
Marich reports Moten will be on campus for the BBQ at the Big House on July 27. Getting a top target back on campus is great news on its own, but that’s before you consider the fact that Moten’s decision date is also slated for July 27. Given that timing, I’d say it’s likely not a coincidence he will be in Ann Arbor when he’s planning to announce. This one seems all but sewn up for the Maize and Blue.
4-star ATH sets 1st trip to Ann Arbor
Another exciting athlete who will be on campus for the BBQ on July 27 will be 4-star TreVeyon Henderson, per TMI’s Marich ($).
The Virginia native was offered by the staff back in March, but hasn’t been able to make the trip up to campus until now. Henderson said he is “very excited to finally be able to get up there,” and he’s been “waiting for awhile” for the opportunity.
Henderson plays both quarterback and defensive back for his high school team, but given the fact Jay Harbaugh is his main recruiter, Michigan may be looking at him as a running back.
Michigan trending with in-state 4-star
After it didn’t look likely 2020 4-star safety Makari Paige would end up in Michigan’s class for a while, it now appears the tide has turned back for the Wolverines. 247Sports’ Midwest expert Allen Trieu recently moved his crystal ball from Ohio State to foggy based on some intriguing information ($).
Paige seemed ticketed for Ohio State, but with the commitment of another Michigander in Cameron Martinez and their likelihood of landing Lathan Ransom, it appears there may not be room at the safety position in their class.
Trieu states he’s heard Michigan has “surged back into strong contention, with one source believing them to be the team to beat.” It is likely but not confirmed Paige will be on campus for the BBQ at the Big House, which would be another big step in his recruitment.
This is a big development, as landing Paige would give Michigan an excellent safety class and keep the No. 5 player in the state close to home.
That wraps up yet another Michigan Recruiting Roundup. Stay tuned for more news and information as the BBQ and 2019 season quickly approaches.
