Friday Michigan Recruiting Roundup: More visits planned for BBQ at the Big House

On Wednesday’s Michigan Recruiting Roundup, our own Jon Simmons brought you some news on two players eyeing trips to Ann Arbor this summer for the BBQ at the Big House. Today, I am happy to bring you updates on more players slated to visit for the BBQ later this month, so let’s jump right into it.

2021 4-star RB bound for the BBQ

If you have been looking a little ahead to the 2021 class, I cannot blame you, as the 2020 class is getting close to being locked in for the Wolverines. It is very strange to say that in mid-July, but they may add five or so more players to the 2020 class.

With all that said, I have been looking ahead to 2021 a bit more over the past couple weeks, and one player Michigan is doing a great job with so far is 4-star running back Corey Kiner. He told The Michigan Insider’s Brice Marich ($) he will be heading to the BBQ at the Big House on July 27.

The 5-foot-10, 205-pounder from Cincinnati was offered by Michigan in January and visited for the first time back in March. Since then, he has picked up offers from Ohio State, Wisconsin, Penn State, Minnesota, Tennessee and Arkansas, among others.

Running back will yet again be an important position in the 2021 class. If things go well with Kiner and in-stater Donovan Edwards, Michigan will be in a great spot.

Kiner is ranked No. 170 overall and the No. 10 running back in the 2021 class. It is early, but all three crystal ball picks are in for Michigan.

2021 4-star DE also visiting for BBQ

Aaron Armitage, a 2021 4-star defensive end from Blairstown, New Jersey, is visiting Michigan for the first time July 27, Armitage told Maize n Brew.

“Meeting the coaches and seeing the beautiful campus (is what I’m most looking forward to seeing),” he said. “Want to gain a good connection with these coaches — I’ve always wanted to be a Wolverine. I always watched them with my dad when I really got into football. My pops always wanted to be a Wolverine.

“I’m excited (to visit for the first time).”

The 6-foot-4, 242-pounder was a high school teammate with Michigan true freshman David Ojabo. With Armitage admitting he has always wanted to be a Wolverine, and with his former teammate on the team, Michigan seems to have a the advantage early on in this recruitment.

Armitage — who is ranked No. 131 overall and the No. 11 strong-side defensive end — also holds offers from Kentucky, LSU, Maryland, Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State, Pitt, Purdue, Rutgers, Syracuse, Texas A&M, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and Wisconsin, among others.

2021 4-star OL plans 1st U-M trip for BBQ

Drew Kendall, the current top-ranked offensive guard in the 2021 class, is visiting Michigan for the first time on July 27 for the BBQ, his high school coach Panos Voulgaris told Maize n Brew earlier this week.

“He’s excited to be heading out to Michigan for a visit,” Voulgaris said of Kendall.

It is very early on in the process, but Kendall is currently ranked No. 50 overall and the No. 1 offensive guard in his class. He holds other offers from Boston College, Nebraska, Virginia Tech, Duke, Maryland, Syracuse, Virginia, Massachusetts and Dartmouth.

Of significant note is that both his mom and dad attended Boston College, so he grew up a big Eagles fan. This could eventually be a difficult pull for Michigan, but nothing that has not been done before.

Another 2021 4-star OL

Hayden Conner, a 2021 4-star offensive lineman from Katy, Texas, announced on Twitter he would be visiting Michigan for the BBQ.

The Wolverines offered Conner back in November, and he has become one of the top targets on their board. Ed Warinner and company are in a good spot right now in recruiting offensive linemen, and are sure to be at or near the top of a few big-time linemen in 2021.

Conner is the No. 153 overall prospect and the No. 20 offensive tackle in his class.
