Welcome back to another Recruiting Roundup from Maize n Brew, which you’ll be back to receiving three times a week as the season draws nearer. In the meantime, recruits are starting to map out their plans for the fall and decide which schools they want to see. A few highly-regarded players are thinking about Michigan, while one top target has excluded the Wolverines.
4-star TE narrows list to 2 schools
Even though the Wolverines already have two tight ends in their class, they have still been pursuing a couple of targets at the position for 2020. One of the targets was in-state 4-star Maliq Carr, who just trimmed his list to Purdue and Georgia, leaving Michigan out.

They are the only schools to strongly consider letting @CarrMaliq play both football & basketball, according to a source. @247Sports @Rivals
This has been expected for a while, given Purdue’s 75 percent hold on the crystal ball. Michigan would stand to benefit if Carr went to Georgia, however, since they are still a finalist for the staff’s other top target at the position, Theo Johnson. The Wolverines are also battling Penn State and Iowa for Johnson’s services.
2021 top 100 DE looking to make first visit to Ann Arbor
One area of the country Michigan could do well to break into is St. Louis, which produces plenty of top level talent. Next in the line looks to be 2021 4-star defensive end Travion Ford, who has had Michigan on his mind since they offered early last month.
Asked by The Michigan Insider’s Brice Marich if he’s planning on making it up to Michigan soon to see a game, Ford answered in the affirmative ($).
“Yes sir. I’m still working on my schedule,” said Ford, adding he’s looking forward to “meeting with the coaching staff and going through film” and “can’t wait to view the facilities.”
Ford is highly coveted, holding offers from Alabama, LSU, Ohio State and Oklahoma, just to name a few. Once he actually steps on campus, it will be easier to gauge the seriousness of his interest.
Return trip in the works for 4-star OT
Michigan has landed impressive hauls from Illinois in recent cycles, and look to continue that trend by adding 2021 4-star offensive lineman David Davidkov. He visited back in May, but couldn’t make it up for the BBQ at the Big House like he planned.
Davidkov spoke with TMI’s Marich about the dates he’s considering to make up for the missed trip ($).
“I’ll most likely make the Notre Dame game or Ohio State game, but I’m not sure yet though,” he said.
He added Michigan is “definitely high up on my list,” which also includes offers from LSU, Michigan State, Nebraska, Penn State, Wisconsin and others.
That wraps up another Recruiting Roundup! Stay tuned for more recruiting updates in the near future, especially once coaches can officially contact 2021 players on Sept. 1.
