One of the top positions of need for the Michigan Wolverines in the 2021 class is interior defensive line, and there sure are a lot of great prospects to choose from in this class.

A recruit the Wolverines are going after pretty hard is four-star defensive tackle Victory Vaka. He is a big boy, standing 6-foot-3 and weighing 315 pounds. A guy like him is just what the doctor ordered for Michigan in this class.

The Westlake Village, California native recently narrowed down his top list of schools to just five — Michigan, Texas A&M, Oregon, LSU and Utah. He told Maize n Brew he plans on officially visiting all five schools.

“The coaches are great and I feel like I could be great at those schools,” Vaka said.

Along with his top five, he also announced his official visit to Michigan is locked in for June 19-21. This will be his first time in Ann Arbor.

“The facilities, the school, and just talking and building with the coaches more,” Vaka said about what he’s most looking forward to when visiting Michigan. “It’s a great and historic program and school.”

One of the top coaches he’ll likely build a relationship with more is defensive line coach Shaun Nua. He is the head recruiter for Vaka and has done a good job with him early on.

“(Nua and I) talk when we can. We’re both very busy on a daily basis so when we talk, we talk, if that makes sense,” Vaka said. “He’s a great coach but a better person.”

When it comes to what he is looking for in his future school, Vaka said he wants a “great atmosphere, great school for my major, family feel and vibes with the staff and players.” His academic major is still to be determined, but he said he really likes astronomy, business and finance as of now.

Vaka said he is hoping to make his decision in late July. He also plans on signing in December and enrolling early.

Nua and company are going to have to roll out the red carpet for Vaka from June 19-21. He is at a big position of need, so it would be wise for the coaching staff to do everything they can to get a commitment from him.

Vaka is currently the No. 14 defensive tackle, No. 19 player in California and No. 198 overall player in the 2021 class, per 247Sports’ composite. View some of his junior season highlights below.
