The 6-foot-5, 275-pounder has long been a top target for Shaun Nua and the Wolverines. They pitched him to play along the defensive line from the very start of the recruitment, which ended up being a huge aspect of this recruitment due to his desire to play defense at the next level. The schools who were also on him early on are now eliminated from his top list, since they were recruiting him to play offensive line.
His current top four consists of Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State and Kentucky. All six crystal ball picks are in on the Wolverines as of this writing, but Allen Trieu over at 247Sports ($) says MSU has picked up steam as of late and are a real threat here. The Spartans are pitching him to play with his current teammate, MSU running back commit Davion Primm, and “branding opportunities.”
As of today, I still believe Michigan leads, but it’ll be intriguing to see how much ground MSU can make up in time for his commitment. Stay locked in to Maize n Brew for more updates regarding this recruitment. Also, be sure to tune in to our Future Brew podcast (out tomorrow) for more analysis on Benny’s recruitment.
Benny is the No. 188 overall player and the No. 14 defensive tackle in his class, per the 247Sports composite.
