Recruiting Roundup: Prospects react to big Michigan win over the weekend

Some four-stars were impressed by Michigan’s win and are planning trips to Ann Arbor

With the Big Ten football schedule finally started, Michigan’s huge win over Minnesota was one of the best recruiting pitches that the program could give. In this week’s Tuesday Recruiting Roundup, we have some reactions from top prospects who were watching and a few others who are planning to be on campus for future games.

Four-star DB target impressed with Michigan’s win

One of the several prospects to be impressed with Michigan’s performance in their opening game is Missouri four-star defensive back Isaac Thompson ($). He spoke with 247Sports’ Allen Trieu about his reaction to the game ($).

“I loved how their defensive backs played all game,” he said. “They played fast and physical all game and were great in coverage. They looked like one of the best defenses out there to me and I feel like their defensive backs play how I play.”

“I’m also trying to set up a visit with my dad to get up to Ann Arbor in early November,” said Thompson.

Soon after, it was confirmed that Thompson will be attending the Wisconsin game. This will add to a growing list of special defensive back talent, including Ceyair Wright, Will Johnson, and Domani Jackson.

Texas is seen as the early favorite here and has a few Crystal Ball picks in already. But Trieu mentioned that Michigan is “surging” in this recruitment and a visit could let them take the top spot.

California WR duo to visit Ann Arbor

A couple of recruits who are planning to make a trip earlier are four-star wide receiver commits Xavier Worthy and Cristian Dixon. The Michigan Insider’s Brice Marich confirmed that both receivers will be on hand for this week’s Michigan State game ($).

This is notable because neither prospect has been to Michigan’s campus yet. Both committed sight unseen since they couldn’t take visits during the majority of their recruitments.

Being able to see Ann Arbor and spend time with fellow commits and their families will go a long way in keeping them solid in the class, especially Worthy, who has fielded interest from the upper echelon of college football programs.

Additionally, Worthy said he will be back a couple weeks after to attend the Wisconsin game as well. These two visits should be an indicator that he is still solid to the Wolverines.

Recent four-star visitor reacts to the win

Indiana four-star defensive lineman Joe Strickland took a self-guided tour of campus just before the season started. TMI’s Marich caught up with Strickland to get his thoughts on Michigan’s blowout win ($).

“Good game. I watched all of them yesterday and I enjoyed watching Michigan,” said Strickland. “The offense did pretty good and the defense is picking up for sure.”

Strickland iterated that he wants to get back to Michigan for a real unofficial visit whenever the dead period lifts.

So far, Michigan looks good for Strickland, whose only Crystal Ball is for Notre Dame - who hasn’t offered yet. Indiana, Penn State, and Purdue are all listed as “warm” on his 247Sports profile.
