Multiple future Michigan Wolverines showed up a lot during my film analysis of IMG Academy’s third game of the season against Ravenwood out of Brentwood, Tennessee. In breaking down J.J. McCarthy’s film, Junior Colson showed up quite a bit for the Raptors defense. Colson, of course, is the four-star linebacker commit for the Wolverines in the class of 2021, ranked just outside the top 100 in the 247Sports composite ranking.
McCarthy’s stat-line for this game was much more of a “game manager” more than a stand-out, going 15-for-29 through the air with 220 yards and one touchdown and zero interceptions. The tape shows Ravenwood deserves quite a bit of credit, as it’s hard to see where McCarthy should have gone with the ball on those 14 incompletions. With that being said, there are a fair number of criticisms when looking through his play, as well.
