Friday Night Recaps Week 11: Season wrap-up

Every recruit with a fall season is done except for one school, see how their seasons ended

I’m going to get this out of the way up top. Today’s Friday Night Recaps is pretty short for a couple reasons. For the seven players who still had games, only four actually played.

Tavierre Dunlap has been out for the past few weeks with what looks to be an injury, Andrel Anthony and Raheem Anderson are sitting out because of a shutdown on high school sports in the state of Michigan, and Quintin Somerville’s game was suspended because of a positive test on his team.

With only one team scheduled to be playing next week, this will probably be the last Friday Night Recaps until next year, when the schools who postponed their seasons until the spring start up again. I’ll include any notes in the Tuesday Recruiting Roundup from now on.

Tavierre Dunlap (Del Valle - TX)

Del Valle ended their season with a close 38-35 loss to Austin High. Dunlap, who hasn’t played consistently since Week 5 because of postponements or injury, sat out once again.

With a 3-6 record, it looks like Del Valle is out of the Texas high school playoffs. Dunlap finished with 572 yards on 84 carries for 6.8 yards per carry and four touchdowns in only about four full games of action this year.

Andrel Anthony (East Lansing - MI) and Raheem Anderson (Cass Tech - MI)

Once again, the Michigan players are idle as they are in week two of the three-week shutdown before the playoffs can resume again.

Quintin Somerville (Saguaro - AZ)

Like Rod Moore and Northmont earlier this season, Saguaro’s season ended in a forfeit in the playoffs because of a positive test on the team.

Saguaro, who had the No. 3 seed in the playoffs, finished 5-2 on their patchwork season that often featured last-minute opponents or cancellations. Somerville has 23 tackles, 12 TFLs and 3.5 sacks on the year.

Branden Jennings (Sandalwood - FL)

Sandalwood also lost in the playoffs this week, but were at least able to play. They fell to Seminole in a 40-20 loss.

Jennings showed out in his last high school game, putting up 14 tackles, four TFLs, a sack and a fumble recovery. Here’s video of his sack:

Sandalwood finished with a 8-3 record and their first playoff win since 2006. Jennings stuffed the stat sheet with 112 tackles, 25 TFLs and 13 sacks. He also broke up two passes, caused two safeties, forced two fumbles and recovered a fumble.

Jaydon Hood and Ja’Den McBurrows (St. Thomas Aquinas - FL)

St. Thomas Aquinas was the lone team to be victorious this week. McBurrows and Hood helped shutout Manatee 45-0 in the regional semifinals.

Game-by-game stats were uploaded by St. Thomas Aquinas so we have complete stats for McBurrows and Hood now. For this game, McBurrows had five tackles and a pass breakup, while Hood chipped in eight tackles. For full season stats, check the chart below.

Next week, McBurrows and Hood will play Venice for the regional championship in a matchup of two of Florida’s premier schools. For reference, IMG Academy beat Venice 49-13 in the first week of the season.
