Five-star QB and Michigan commit J.J. McCarthy has been the most vocal U-M recruit the past two seasons. He’s even helped Michigan land a few recruits here and there along the way. McCarthy has been a Michigan Man through and through, with the only thing left being him signing his letter of intent.
McCarthy made it clear on Twitter that he’ll be signing on December 16, which is the first day of the early signing period (Dec 16-18).
Been 2 years, finally about to make this shit official... 〽️ @UMichFootball #December16th

With Michigan standing at 2-4 on the season and plenty of negative outside noise surrounding the program, it hasn’t phased McCarthy in any manner. After Michigan’s loss to Wisconsin, McCarthy made it known he believes better days are ahead for the program. “This great university demands excellence. This great fan base demands excellence. Everything that surrounds this university, is simply just pure drive for excellence. Know that every single person associated with the football program is striving for excellence,” McCarthy said. “There is always light at the end of the tunnel. They will not reach that light if it is being clouded by darkness. Support is the only thing that they need right now. Every single one of you has the power to contribute to the goal. We are all in this together.”
For McCarthy and Michigan, it was love at first visit. “First visit I took here was one of those gut feelings, those instinctual feelings that you’re just like, ‘yup, this it.’ And that’s what I tell all of these guys. I’m unbiased with them at the end of the day – because I’m not a salesman. I’m talking to you because I want you to be my brother for the next four years. So, I’m not going to be selling you some BS about, ‘you’re going to be playing right away, all this.’ No, we’re going to work together. We’re going to bust our ass. And we’re going to win some games. That’s it. And we’re going win a championship.”
McCarthy is one of 11 quarterbacks on the National High School Quarterback of the Year Award Watch List presented by the National Quarterback Club. McCarthy is coming off a fantastic season for IMG in Bradenton, Florida, passing for 1,440 yards and 16 touchdowns with no interceptions. Per the 247 Sports Composite, McCarthy is ranked as the No. 22 overall prospect in the 2021 class and No. 2 QB.
