Despite the down time due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Michigan coaches continue to hunt for talent on the recruiting trail. Numerous offers have been sent out over the last week to kids in the 2022 class, but one of the more recent kids in the 2021 class who received an offer is three-star defensive end Arden Walker.

The 6-foot-4, 245-pounder from Englewood, Colorado also holds offers from Wisconsin, Michigan State, Iowa, Washington State, UCLA, Colorado, Colorado State, Boise State, Boston College and more.

Defensive line coach Shaun Nua gave the scholarship to Walker over a FaceTime call. Walker’s mom was also there on the call when he got the offer.

“I was so hyped up. Great news this morning,” Walker told Maize n Brew. “My mom was more excited than me honestly.

“(It) seems like (my mom is a fan of Michigan). Especially after talking with coach Nua.”

This wasn’t the first time Walker had spoken with Nua, as he has been talking with the Michigan assistant since last fall. They haven’t spoken a ton since then, but Walker is impressed with what Nua brings to the table both as a coach and as a person.

“Based on the few talks, he’s very sincere and he definitely has a passion for coaching. I definitely respect that,” Walker said.

After receiving the offer, Walker said he and Nua discussed getting him out to Ann Arbor on an official visit later this summer, if the pandemic is slowed down by then.

“I definitely want to see student life and the mesh of the team. That’s very big in terms of my recruiting,” he said. “Definitely the program, (too). I’m looking forward to seeing how things are ran and organized and to see if this a potential fit for me.”

And now that Nua pulled the trigger with the offer, where does Michigan stand?

“Oh definitely in the top,” Walker said. “I’m just looking forward to getting on campus soon.”

Among those at the top of his list, along with Michigan, are Michigan State, Iowa, Iowa State, Wisconsin, Colorado and Boston College.
