On this week’s Future Brew podcast, Von Lozon and Jon Simmons broke down Simmons’ recent 2021 class predictions article. One of the better position groups in Simmons’ list involves the wide receivers. He has Michigan reeling in three four-stars— Xavier Worthy, Cristian Dixon and Jayden Thomas.

Lozon: Michigan’s already got Markus Allen committed, he’s a three-star from Ohio. You’re predicting quite the haul here, Jon, and I would be ecstatic about this. You’ve got Michigan reeling in Cristian Dixon, Jayden Thomas and Xavier Worthy, three four-star wide receivers. At this moment, Worthy is the lowest ranked of the three but I think he has the most upside of the three. Jayden Thomas is being recruited to play both football and baseball like you had alluded to earlier. And then Cristian Dixon, he had a few crystal balls come in for Michigan. It sounds like Josh Gattis is knocking it out of the park with him — and Gattis is trying to get Michigan to the top for both Jayden Thomas and Xavier Worthy. So this would be a really, really good haul at wide receiver, and one I certainly did not expect early on in the recruiting cycle. I thought maybe they’d take two guys, but getting four really good prospects at wide receiver — it’s something you need in an offense like Gattis’. You see Alabama taking elite wide receiver prospects in every class, and that’s something you need in the modern-style of football. You need to reload at these skill positions because at the end of the day, that’s what’s winning football games in today’s college football.

Simmons: Yeah this was probably my most optimistic position that I predicted. Cristian Dixon I think is basically already in the bag — a bunch of crystal balls came in for him lately. He’ll be one to keep an eye on if he takes visits elsewhere since he’s never visited from California, but I think he’ll end up being in the class. Thomas has been picking up steam lately. His top list doesn’t have a bunch of schools that I’m really afraid of compared to Michigan. I think Notre Dame may be the biggest threat there. He’s a high academic kid and Notre Dame already has a few commits at wide receiver, too, so I think Michigan is in a good spot. And then Worthy is gonna be a — can they hold on as his recruitment continues to blow up. He’s got LSU, Georgia, Alabama offers after Michigan was one of the first to kinda discover him and put in a lot of work to build that relationship. I think Oregon is the biggest threat right now. That’ll be a tough one given the West Coast factor, but I think Michigan has done a really good job there. Giles Jackson is recruiting him, too, and I think he’s been a legitimate help for them — he’s always been a great pure recruiter. I think in the end, he’s the perfect type of slot that Josh Gattis is gonna use to great effect. It’ll be one to watch for sure. I think Michigan will be in it until the very end, but I think they need to get him on campus for sure if they wanna have a real shot.
