WATCH: Freshman Feature Episode 4 — Evaluating 2020 quarterback Dan Villari

Taking a look at the recruitment, film, and projection of the true freshman quarterback

The Michigan Wolverines were left scrambling a bit after their 2020 QB commit JD Johnson had to medically retire due to a heart condition. A late run at Top-100 QB CJ Shroud ended a bit short, and Michigan turned to the intriguing offensive weapon Dan Villari.

A relatively unknown 3-star recruit out of New York, Villari flirted with some FCS offers before he blew up his senior year, putting up over 1,300 yards passing, over 1,500 yards rushing, and 38 combined TDs as he led his team to their first ever state championship in program history. Michigan fended off some late interest from Rutgers & Wisconsin to get his pledge.

Check out the timestamps below for different areas of Villari that I cover in this episode of Freshman Feature:

  • School - 0:37
  • Stats - 1:39
  • Metrics - 2:07
  • Rankings - 2:29
  • Recruitment - 2:55
  • Scouting - 4:24
  • Film - 5:07
  • Comparison - 8:10
  • Projection - 10:19

It’ll be interesting to see how the quarterback position shakes out for the Wolverines moving forward. I’m excited to see Villari develop and think he has a ton of promise as an offensive weapon down the line.
