Rocco Spindler, one of Michigan’s top remaining targets and a top 50 player in the 2021 class, just announced his commitment to Notre Dame.
The 6-foot-4.5, 315-pounder from Clarkston picked Notre Dame over U-M, Penn State, Ohio State and LSU. He released that top five back in May, and since then, all the talk was centered around Michigan and Notre Dame.
Michigan recruited Spindler for well over two years now, offering him a scholarship back on March 25, 2018. That was just a couple months after Warinner was hired at Michigan, so this has been one of the longer recruitments during his time in Ann Arbor.
But it wasn’t just Warinner who recruited him. It was a team effort, with Jim Harbaugh and other coaches lending a helping hand. Even J.J. McCarthy, Michigan’s crown jewel of the 2021 class, was on him from the moment he committed to Michigan back in May 2019.
But even with all the help, Warinner and company were still unable to reel in Spindler. So where do they turn their attention to now? Look no further than another four-star guard in the 2021 class — Drew Kendall.
The 6-foot-4, 255-pounder from Massachusetts has been another longtime target for Warinner, so the chances Michigan lands him are even higher now that Spindler committed to Notre Dame. He would be another solid addition to the offensive line room, as he is the No. 8 ranked guard and No. 126 overall talent in his class, per the composite score.
So even though a top 50 talent committed elsewhere, all is not lost in offensive line recruiting at all. It’s already a good class with or without Spindler or Kendall, so we will just have to wait and see how this all plays out.
No doubt about it, this was a nice win on the recruiting trail for Notre Dame. Time for Michigan to quickly move on and focus all of its attention on Kendall.
