Michigan lost its second commitment in the 2021 class this month when three-star linebacker Casey Phinney decided to back out of his pledge and instead join Boston College. The Massachusetts native joined the class back in April with a commitment that came out of the blue, considering his only other FBS offer was from Army.

This could also reflect his friend and teammate Drew Kendall’s recruitment, which has swung from Michigan being the favorite to Boston College and Stanford fighting it out.

As for the Wolverines, they should be fine at linebacker if the three remaining in the class stay committed. However, that is not a given as there is still some buzz that four-star Jaydon Hood is communicating with Miami and Minnesota.

It’s unclear what the staff’s move would be then, but we’ll cross the bridge when we get there. This move does drop Michigan from eighth in the overall rankings to 10th, but does increase their average player ranking.
