Recruitment

College kickers are notoriously unreliable. That’s why even when a specialist checks all the boxes it makes me nervous to talk about how good he should be at Michigan.

On paper, Tommy Doman looks like he can’t miss. He has earned universal praise from the services dedicated to evaluating high school kickers and punters.

To Kohl’s Kicking, Doman is considered both a five-star punter and kicker. He is ranked No. 2 as a punter and No. 6 as a kicker, so Doman should be able to handle either of these duties in college.

Chris Sailer Kicking took it a step further, creating the six-star designation this year to denote a Power 5 freshman starter and scholarship player. Doman earned this sixth star, and is No. 9 in their punter rankings.

Along with his inclusion to the All-American Bowl, it’s clear he is considered one of the best specialists in the country, both as a kicker and a punter. When he gets to Michigan, Doman will be behind Brad Robbins at punter and Jake Moody at kicker. He could take kickoff duties off of Moody’s plate, but when either one graduates, Doman should be able to slide in seamlessly.

Scouting

I don’t know the first thing about scouting kickers, so I’m going to include his write-up from Chris Sailer Kicking:

“Tommy is a big time punting and kicking prospect. He is an incredible athlete with off the charts all around college potential. Tommy has an ideal frame for a D1 Punter. He has a pure swing and punts for a great combination of distance and hang time. He averages 45+ yards with 4.5+ hang time. His best balls measure 55+ yards, with 5.0+ hang time. Tommy reminds me a lot of former #1 Chris Sailer Kicking punter J.K. Scott (Alabama, Packers). He is also an excellent kicker. He is smooth and accurate off the ground. He gets the ball up well and easily has 55+ yard range. His kickoffs are D1 ready. Tommy drives the ball into the end zone with great hang time. Tommy is currently the #1 Combo Prospect in the nation without a doubt. He is a fine young man that is always a great pleasure to work with. The All-American Bowl on NBC Punter and TOP 12 Camp Selection is the absolute real deal. OFFER NOW!!! Huge pick up for Michigan.”
