The Wolverines are in strong position for at least one.

Among the topics on this week’s Future Brew podcast involves the recent decommitment of 2022 three-star defensive back Zeke Berry. He was committed to Arizona, but reopened his recruitment last weekend following an official visit to Oregon. The Michigan Wolverines have been recruiting Berry for a few months now, so do they have a legitimate shot here?

Von: Michigan offered him back in August and have been actively recruiting him since then despite his then-commitment to Arizona. He is ranked No. 384 overall on the composite and is from Concord, California. So they are dipping their feet into the waters of California yet again with the assistance of Courtney Morgan. You’d imagine the other defensive coaches, Ron Bellamy, Steve Clinkscale, they’re probably in on this action as well. Stephen, Michigan has another safety target who will be committing somewhere on Monday, his name is Domani Dent. For all the struggles they’ve had recruiting safeties in this class, if you finish with a guy like Dent who has had a good senior season, was a late bloomer but is starting to turn it on a little bit here. And then if you get a guy like Zeke Berry who has shown this renewed interest, I don’t think you could ask for much more. At that standpoint, you get two solid prospects and you move on to the next class.

Stephen: Yeah, I’m with you. And we’ve talked about Dent and how it’s crazy, he’s like 1,400 on the composite which doesn’t align. But they could do a two-for-one and get Dent and Berry. That’s going to be interesting to watch to see how Michigan approaches both Dent and Berry because they’re projected to play the same position. We’ve talked about Juwan Howard was pitching two power forward recruits; how are you going to play together? So it’ll be interesting to see how Michigan works together on that sort of relationship between those two. That’ll be interesting that both of them have the same primary recruiter, are projected to the same position and make sure they don’t interfere with each other’s commitments here. I’m hoping to read how those two guys are going to interact here in the next week or so to project the future for Zeke Berry after that potential commitment from Damani Dent.
