The Michigan Wolverines have hit the state of Texas hard in the 2022 class over the last few weeks, especially from co-defensive coordinator Maurice Linguist. They have sent out offers to ton of highly-talented prospects, and they likely won’t stop doing that for a while.
One of the most recent offers from the Long Star State in the 2022 class is three-star athlete Jeremy Patton. The 6-foot-2, 210-pounder from Tenaha, Texas received his offer on Thursday from linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary. It was their first time talking together, and it likely will not be the last time.
“I could tell (Jean-Mary is) a laid back guy, he sounds as excited as I am,” Patton told Maize n Brew.
Michigan is one of several schools to offer Patton. He also holds offers from Ole Miss, Oklahoma State, Baylor, TCU, Iowa State, Texas Tech, SMU and more. He also has interest in three schools that have not offered him yet — Oklahoma, Alabama and LSU.
It wasn’t made clear to Patton exactly what position the Wolverines are recruiting him to play, but his guess is linebacker, since Jean-Mary extended the offer and that’s the position he plays the most.
“But I wouldn’t be surprised if they wanted me to move all over the field,” Patton said.
His skillset would certainly allow that. During his time playing high school football, he has been all over the field on both offense and defense. He has experience at linebacker, safety and running back. Thanks to his versatility, he won the District 11-2A-II MVP this past season.
But at the end of the day, Patton believes he is best suited at the linebacker position.
“I believe so. I like being all over the field and in position to make plays,” Patton said.
When it comes to what Patton is looking for in his future school, it isn’t just success on and off the field he wants. He wants to build lasting relationships.
“A place that’s more than football. I love the game but I love good people more. Need a place that feels like home,” he said.
Up to this point, he has only been able to visit Oklahoma State. He desires to visit “everywhere” when he is able to do so, including Michigan.
Patton is the No. 57 athlete, No. 81 player in Texas and No. 677 overall player on 247Sports’ composite. Check out his junior year highlights below.
