WATCH: Freshman Feature Episode 1 - J.J. McCarthy

Breaking down the film, recruitment, scouting, and projection of the 5-star QB

If you follow Michigan Wolverines recruiting at all, you know how important J.J. McCarthy was to this top 10 2021 recruiting class for Michigan. A composite five-star and one of the best quarterbacks in the class, he hasn’t thrown an interception since 2019, if that gives you any sense of his skillset. He brings excellent accuracy, pocket-awareness, and the ability to maintain accuracy while on the run.

Michigan has had a similar quarterback profile before. In fact, in my comparison, I mention Shea Patterson. Both extremely highly ranked, mobile for a pro-style quarterback, and lauded for accuracy on the run. The one thing I believe should excite Michigan fans further than Patterson are his intangibles. Throughout his commitment, he was steadfast and brought together others during a season that was difficult to watch, and that’s putting it lightly. He was able to coordinate an on-campus meet-up with other commits and recruits and was the leading force in creating that bond amongst recruits.

In this video, I break down each aspect of his recruitment, scouting, and more. Below are the timestamps for each section in this video.
