A Michigan commitment in the 2022 class has decided to reopen his recruitment, as four-star safety Taylor Groves announced on Twitter Monday night his decision to decommit from the Wolverines.
First I would like to thank @UMichFootball and @CoachMo15 for the opportunity, with that being said, I will be 100% opening my recruitment back up!!

Groves (6-foot-2, 175 pounds) committed to Michigan back on Feb. 5, the same day as current Michigan commit four-star athlete Kody Jones. Both players hail from the state of Tennessee, and both guys were the first recruits to commit under the new defensive coaching staff.
Co-defensive coordinator/cornerbacks coach Maurice Linguist was the head recruiter for Groves. Safeties coach George Helow was listed as a secondary recruiter on 247Sports.
Back when he received the offer from Linguist on Jan. 27, Groves told Maize n Brew how good of a conversation it was.
“It was great, one of the best conversations I’ve ever had with a coach,” Groves said. “He was real about everything he said, and I’m definitely a big fan of Michigan already just after that conversation.”
He also told Maize n Brew in January that he planned to make his initial commitment in August. It is unclear if the reason he reopened his recruitment was to do his due diligence with other schools and stick with his original timeline, but it certainly could have played a factor in him wanting to look elsewhere.
The Wolverines are actively recruiting several other safeties in the 2022 class, including five-star Keon Sabb, five-star Jacoby Matthews, in-state four-star Dillon Tatum, four-star Bryce Anderson, four-star Chace Biddle, three-star Sherrod Covil
With Groves’ decision, Michigan’s 2022 class now has just six prospects committed, most notably five-star in-state cornerback Will Johnson.
