Tuesday Recruiting Roundup: Pair of defensive targets set June visits

A massive DT and versatile ATH will be visiting Michigan, plus a new target at quarterback emerges.

Michigan still isn’t done adding visitors to the schedule in June, as the list keeps growing with top targets for each weekend. Today’s roundup also has a note on a potential new target at the quarterback position, where the board is extremely narrow.

Enormous three-star DT sets visit to Michigan

The Wolverines need a planet-sized nose tackle to anchor their 3-4 defense, and one guy they are trying to get to fill that role is 2022 three-star Kenneth Grant. Grant spoke with The Michigan Insider’s Brice Marich about his visit schedule this June, which include a stop in Ann Arbor ($).

“The second week of June I’ll be taking (an) unofficial with Michigan,” Grant said. “After that I have an official with Illinois.”

Grant checks in at 6-foot-4, 335 pounds, making him one of the biggest prospects size-wise that Michigan is recruiting.

Having Grant come up for an unofficial now can be viewed as a positive for Michigan, since it means they can get him up for an official visit on a game day during the season. Other than the two schools he plans on visiting, Grant also holds offers from Arizona State, Cincinnati, Nebraska, Purdue and others.

Three-star Alabama ATH schedules official visit

Quietly, one of the staff’s top targets at defensive back in the 2022 class is three-star Ja’Kobi Albert. The Alabama native shared with TMI’s Marich his plans on visiting Michigan soon ($).

Albert said he will be taking an official visit to Michigan the weekend of June 25. That will be Albert’s third official visit, following Maryland and Auburn earlier in the month.

Albert was originally offered in December, but was reaffirmed to be a target by the new defensive staff. George Helow is his main recruiter, indicating that Michigan is recruiting him as a safety.

So far, it looks like Auburn is going to be the team to beat for Albert.

Michigan reaches out to new target at QB

Staying down in the state of Alabama, TMI’s Marich reported Michigan coaches have reached out to 2022 three-star quarterback Conner Harrell to show interest ($).

Harrell is listed as a dual-threat quarterback, though he only ran for 292 yards while throwing for 3,568 yards and 42 touchdowns and leading his team to a state championship.

The three teams listed as “warm” on Harrell’s 247Sports profile are Duke, Northwestern and Vanderbilt, so he clearly is an academic-minded young man.

Michigan has yet to offer Harrell, but if something happens with 2022 three-star quarterback Nate Johnson, he would certainly be in line to receive one.
