Even though the hiring news hasn’t been made official by the university yet, the addition of Steve Clinkscale as cornerbacks coach/passing game coordinator for Michigan football is already having a positive impact on the recruiting trail.

One recruit in the 2022 class who developed a rapport with Clinkscale while he was at Kentucky is three-star cornerback Myles Pollard. He was one of the top targets for Maurice Linguist before he left for the head coaching gig at Buffalo last week, and he will assuredly remain a top target for Michigan now that Clinkscale is in town.

“(The addition of Clinkscale is) huge,” Pollard told Maize n Brew on Tuesday. “Yep, (we talk) a lot.”

Pollard has a top-six that includes Michigan, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Washington, Tennessee, and Virginia Tech. Clink was a big reason why he was so high on Kentucky, and now that he’s in Ann Arbor, that will only be a benefit to Michigan.

Clinkscale has been known for his recruiting prowess during his time at Kentucky, taking several recruits away from the Maize and Blue over the last few years, including a couple of players in the Mitten State like 2020 four-star defensive tackle Justin Rogers and 2018 four-star defensive lineman Marquan McCall.

But now that he is a Wolverine, this can only be beneficial on the recruiting trail for the Wolverines. And this reaction from Pollard goes to show how Clinkscale can be a force on the recruiting trail for Michigan. This isn’t to say he is going to get all the top targets on Michigan’s board, but it will steer them in the right direction for guys like Pollard who already developed a bond with him in this 2022 class.

Along with having a good relationship with Clink, Pollard has also developed a friendship with Michigan five-star cornerback commit Will Johnson. Along with that, his former high school teammate and current Michigan linebacker Junior Colson is also in his ear, so there is a lot of momentum for Michigan at the moment.

His official visit to Michigan is locked in for the weekend of June 11. He is also visiting Oklahoma on the weekend of June 18 and Auburn on the weekend of June 25. So I would imagine we will know a lot more about where this recruitment is headed in the next month.

Pollard is the No. 37 cornerback and No. 418 overall player in the 2022 class on the 247Sports composite.
