2022 three-star ATH Jaren Kanak gets U-M offer, recaps ‘great’ talk with Jay Harbaugh

The Kansas native got the scholarship, and now hopes to visit Ann Arbor.

Jaren Kanak, a 2022 three-star athlete from Hays, Kansas, reported Monday evening he received a scholarship offer from Jay Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverines.

The 6-foot-2, 210-pounder has seen his recruitment really take flight over the past week, with other offers rolling in from Penn State, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Virginia and Arizona. He also holds offers from Nebraska, Washington State, TCU, Indiana, Iowa, Texas Tech and a plethora of other Power 5 programs.

As Kanak told Maize n Brew Tuesday morning, this was his first time talking with Jay Harbaugh, and from the sounds of it, it probably won’t be the last.

“The conversation was great,” Kanak said. “Really enjoyed talking to him. Very cool guy.”

Kanak said the Wolverines are primarily recruiting him to play on the defensive side of the ball, but “pretty much an athlete.” He also said Harbaugh “really likes me as a special teams guy early.”

He has two visits set up at the beginning of June — an unofficial to Clemson on June 1 and an official to Nebraska on June 6. Despite his 247Sports profile claiming other official visits to Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa and Washington State, Kanak said those are not entirely locked in and they might change. But he is working with his family to set up other visits.

And when those other visits do get set up, Michigan is a place that very well could be in line to receive one.

“Would like to visit (Michigan), yes,” Kanak said. “(I would look forward to) just getting a feel for the place, seeing everything in-person.”

Along with his abilities on the football field, Kanak also participates with his high school’s track and field team. This past season, he ran a wind-aided 10.66 100-meter and a 22.16 200-meter. He also had a 22-5 14 long jump.

During his time in college, Kanak is aiming to study kinesiology and exercise science.

Kanak is ranked the No. 1 player in the state of Kansas, No. 41 athlete and No. 487 overall on 247Sports’ composite. There is one crystal ball in for Clemson.
