Isaiah Hastings, a three-star defensive tackle in the 2022 class, is set to unofficially visit Ann Arbor on July 31 for the annual BBQ at the Big House event, he confirmed with Maize n Brew on Saturday morning.
The 6-foot-4, 290-pounder from Toronto, Ontario was offered by defensive line coach Shaun Nua on July 2, but their relationship began about a month prior when Hastings camped in front of the Wolverines, among other programs.
“Yes, sir, (I’ve talked with Nua) a lot,” Hastings said after he got the offer. “He’s a great coach and has a lot of interest in me.”
Hastings is set to play his senior year of high school in Florida at Clearwater Academy International. Despite not yet taking a snap of high school football in the United States, he said the coaches at Michigan have faith in his abilities along the defensive line, which is an important factor in his future college decision.
“They really believe in me and we have a great relationship,” he said. “I look at who believes in me the most and which team can make me become the best player I can be and develop me to go to the NFL.”
The Wolverines are looking to get more defensive linemen in their 2022 class to pair up with four-star Mario Eugenio and in-state three-star Devonte Miles, and Hastings is among the top options at the moment. They have also recently sent offers out to Robby Harrison and three-star former LSU commit Shone Washington, so this is a position to keep a close eye on in the months to follow.
Hastings is the No. 92 defensive lineman and No. 631 overall player in the 2022 class on 247Sports’ composite. He holds other offers from Notre Dame, Indiana, Georgia Tech, Tennessee, West Virginia, Purdue, Kansas State, Arizona State and more.
