2022 three-star DL Isaiah Hastings details interest in U-M following offer

Shaun Nua extended the offer to the Canadian-born prospect.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: NOV 17 Indiana at Michigan

The Michigan Wolverines are in pursuit of more defensive line prospects in the 2022 class. They already have a couple commits, but have expanded their board a bit recently, with the latest offer going out to three-star Isaiah Hastings on Friday afternoon.

The 6-foot-4, 290-pounder hails from Ontario, Canada, but will play his senior season of high school football in Florida at Clearwater Academy International, so he has yet to suit up in the United States.

He received his first offer to play college football last year from the University of Buffalo, but has seen his recruitment take off this summer on the camp circuit. Since the beginning of June, Hastings has earned scholarships from schools like Georgia Tech, Indiana, Tennessee, West Virginia and Purdue.

Hastings earned his Michigan offer from defensive line coach Shaun Nua, a coach he was already familiar with. He camped in front of the Wolverines on June 1, where many of his recent offers came from, and has been building that bond with Nua since.

“Yes, sir, (I’ve talked with Nua) a lot,” Hastings told Maize n Brew. “He’s a great coach and has a lot of interest in me.”

And the feelings are mutual, as Hastings said he has “always been interested” in Michigan, even before getting the offer.

“They really believe in me and we have a great relationship,” Hastings said.

Hastings has not had the opportunity to take any visits yet this summer, but hopes to get on the road sometime before the fall hits. He confirmed Ann Arbor is among the places he wants to check out.

When it comes to a commitment timeline, Hastings said he doesn’t necessarily have one. But when it comes to what he is looking for in his future school, he is looking for a program “who believes in me the most and which team can make me become the best player I can be and develop me to go to the NFL.”

Hastings is the No. 92 defensive lineman and No. 629 overall player in the 2022 class on 247Sports’ composite.
