We’ve got some more visitor news for you guys in this week’s Tuesday Recruiting Roundup as Michigan prepares to host plenty of recruits once their season starts up with four home games in a row.
Notre Dame commit to visit Michigan for the second time
Michigan has been gaining steam with 2022 three-star athlete Amorion Walker over the summer after he visited for the BBQ at the Big House. Now, The Michigan Insider’s Sam Webb reports he’ll be back on campus for the Washington game on Sept. 11 ($).
There hasn’t been much success pulling players from Louisiana in Jim Harbaugh’s — or all of Michigan football’s — history. But a few connections are helping the Wolverines out.
One of the few Louisiana natives to wear the winged helmet is actually on staff right now, in Ron Bellamy. The head coach of Walker’s high school, Ponchatoula, was also Bellamy’s coach when he was in high school.
Also helping is the family’s long-time fandom of Michigan. Here’s Walker’s dad explaining how he grew up as a Wolverine fan:
“My dad actually is a huge Michigan fan. We grew up kind of with Michigan in the house. We were kind of Louisiana guys, LSU fans, but he has always been a Michigan fan. We still got Michigan memorabilia all over the house, right now. I don’t say we bleed blue, but the house bleeds blue in there. So, it’s nice. We always loved Michigan. Always had a sweet spot for them.”
While Notre Dame likes Walker as a wide receiver, Michigan, Alabama and LSU are all recruiting him as a defensive back. With needs to fill at both positions in this class, he could play on either side of the ball if needed.
Washington contingent visiting for Michigan’s second game
We already knew 2022 five-star Josh Conerly and 2022 three-star Mark Nabou were flying cross-country to see the hometown Washington Huskies take on Michigan, but the list expanded when 247Sports’ Brandon Huffman confirmed they’d be joined by several underclassmen ($).
In the 2023 class, three-star offensive lineman Micah Banuelos will be in attendance. He already has a couple of early Crystal Balls in for Washington.
Four-star running back Jayden Limar is also a “possibility” to make the trip according to Huffman. He also has a few Washington Crystal Balls already so Michigan could really make a statement with a win.
For 2024, Michigan will host offensive lineman Isendre Ahfua, who is ranked as a top-ten player in his class and is a teammate of Nabou’s at O’Dea.
This list is starting to fill out for this Washington game and I think it will end up rivaling the visitor list for the Ohio State game at the end of the year.
Three-star DL sets Michigan visit
Visiting even sooner than Walker and the Washington crew will be 2022 three-star defensive lineman Lemar Law. Per TMI’s Steve Lorenz, the Virginia Tech commit is slated to be on campus for Michigan’s opener against Western Michigan on Sept. 4 ($).
Law is 6-foot-5, 280 pounds, leading me to believe he projects to one of the defensive end spots on the line. Other than Michigan and Virginia Tech, Law has also reported offers from Maryland, Virginia, Old Dominion, and Liberty.
He has been committed to the Hokies only since late June but is already looking around after being offered by Michigan last Thursday. He’s the latest to be offered in an attempt to land at least three defensive linemen in the 2022 class.
