Among the topics on this week’s episode of Future Brew revolves around 2023 in-state five-star quarterback Dante Moore. He threw for more than 400 yards and four touchdowns in the first game of his junior season with Martin Luther King Jr. High School in Detroit. Von and Stephen discuss why he is so valuable to Michigan’s 2023 class and how he is a must-get type of prospect.

Von: One of Michigan’s top targets in the 2023 class had a monster performance to kick off his junior season and that’s five-star in-state quarterback Dante Moore. Had a stellar performance over the weekend. He threw for 438 yards and four touchdowns, and in the first half alone he threw for 265 yards and three touchdowns. Sometimes you wonder how good a QB will be later in his high school career when he’s ranked so high early on like he has been. Now it’s his junior season and he’s already kinda living up to that five-star billing, and has proven how valuable he is to Michigan’s 2023 recruiting class. He’s the No. 16 overall player in the country for a reason and should be among the top targets in this class. He should be No. 1, so what have you seen out of him that makes him a top talent at the quarterback position and how valuable do you think he is to Michigan’s 2023 class?

Stephen: He’s a guy, when you look at the 2021 class and you saw Donovan Edwards, that’s kinda a similar vain you see in the 2022 class with Will Johnson, and that’s what you see with Dante Moore in the 2023 class. He’s an elite playmaker, a guy who is a no-doubter five-star, someone you need to have committed more or less to set a precedent that the best star talent, the top 20 guy in the nation in your state, won’t go elsewhere. It’s a gut check if that guy escapes out of the state of Michigan. And I think it goes further than that where Michigan is at a roster standpoint to bring him in. Currently, it’s Cade McNamara, J.J. McCarthy. Looking onwards to 2022, those are likely the years you’ll see McCarthy show up. So if you look at that and you’re Dante Moore, you’re looking at an opportunity to go to Michigan in 2023 with the same path as another five-star quarterback, you can look at his timeline. You sit behind a guy who’s been waiting in the wings, learn the offense, and then boom, 2024 and 2025, it’s your time to shine. That’s the pitch. It’s something Michigan is poised very well with that pitch, and that’s really the only way that they can. McCarthy is likely a future captain, so you have to be understand these two quarterbacks need to coexist for likely a year, and you need to lean on that an ensure McCarthy is on board with that vision for Dante Moore. So that’s the path for Michigan.
