Michigan has been interested in 2022 four-star quarterback Justyn Martin since this spring. Michigan offered Martin in late May, but he committed to Cal shortly after. However, Martin announced on Tuesday that he has decommitted from Cal and his recruitment is “100% open”.

The 6-foot-4 Inglewood, California QB told Maize n Brew that Michigan got in touch with him shortly after announcing he decommitted from Cal. Quarterbacks coach Matt Weiss reached out to Martin.
“Coach Weiss talked to me today, just looking forward to getting me back up there. The staff has been in contact with my coach as well,” Martin said, adding “he was quick to text me so I’m thinking they are really serious about me.”
Throughout Martin’s commitment to Cal, Michigan continued to keep in touch with him, something that was noticed and appreciated. Martin has gotten to know Weiss, head coach Jim Harbaugh, and director of player personnel Courtney Morgan better as the months have went by. “It means a lot. They have showed great interest and are high on my list. I can’t wait to get back out there,” Martin said.
As far as when Martin may get back to Ann Arbor, it could happen very soon — as soon as this weekend when Michigan takes on Rutgers at The Big House. When asked if there’s a good chance if he’ll be there on Saturday, Martin was optimistic. “I hope so. I play at 3:00 Friday, so I think there’s a good chance I could make it,” Martin said.
Martin has kept tabs on Michigan this season and has been impressed by their 3-0 start. “They are playing some good ball right now and I’m excited to see how the rest of the year turns out for them,” Martin said.
Martin is currently ranked as the No. 277 overall prospect in the 247 Sports Composite Rankings and the No. 21 quarterback in the nation.
