Michigan added another piece to its defensive class today with the commitment of 2022 Alabama three-star linebacker Deuce Spurlock.
After a great visit I’ve decided to Commit to The University Of 〽️ichigan. I want to thank everyone who has helped me on my journey #GoBlue @Beast1Athletics @UMichFootball @CoachJim4UM @MikeMacUM @GeorgeHelow @PlayerProMorgan @ChadSimmons_ @DexPreps @CoachBGodsey @MAMustangsFB pic.twitter.com/hHGwJbbJiJ— Deuce Spurlock (@deucespurlock) September 26, 2021
Spurlock first came onto the Wolverines’ radar in June when he came up to Ann Arbor for a camp they were hosting. He immediately impressed the coaches and earned an offer.
It looked like Spurlock could commit over the summer, but it cooled off until the news that he would be visiting this weekend for the Rutgers game. A Crystal Ball earlier in the week hinted a commitment could be coming.
Michigan is definitely Spurlock’s best offer, as he is only ranked as the No. 1,248 player in the country. Other offers include Appalachian State, Boston College, Liberty, Memphis, Mississippi State, Pitt, South Carolina, Syracuse, Vanderbilt and Washington State. Of note, he has visited Auburn multiple times and could see an offer from them down the road.
Spurlock becomes the second linebacker in Michigan’s 2022 class, following three-star Aaron Alexander. Really, the only other legitimate linebacker target still out there is four-star Lander Barton, but there has not been much buzz on him following his official visit a couple of weeks ago.
Here’s Spurlock’s highlight reel against North Jackson this season, where he posted an eye-popping 21 tackles, six tackles for loss and three sacks.
